The word bungalow means house in a Bengal style and originally referred to a style of home in India during the 17th century. These houses were usually quite small in size, only one floor and detached. When you're looking at Burlington Homes for Sale or local properties you will notice that many of these qualities still exist in bungalow homes. The original designs also commonly had wide verandas and this style was later adopted by members of the British Raj for their official lodgings.

Bungalows came to North America in the late 19th century and this design was commonly mixed with Arts and Crafts architecture. Today when you're looking at California or Brantford real estate you will find that many of the bungalows have one and a half stories and some have the second storey built into a sloping roof. Usually the homes are still relatively small but you will find that there are some people who simply prefer to have all of their house on one level and have a bungalow that is more than two thousand square feet in size.

Throughout the world, the term bungalow could mean different things when you're looking at real estate. If you're planning on leaving an Ajax real estate for a home in Ireland then a home referred to as a bungalow might just mean one that is set into the countryside. There are also many vacation homes throughout the world that are called bungalows and you might find one if you're renting a property in Singapore, South Africa, or even in some coastal towns in England. This could be a great choice if you're interested in escaping the sights and sounds of living at Yonge and Bloor for a few weeks in the summertime for something a little more peaceful.
